Product Information

A small brooch or pin with handpainted eye.  This type of jewelry was popular in the Victorian period in England.  It was called “lover’s eye” jewelry and was popular with the elite class who could afford to have their “lover’s eye” handpainted.  The popularity was increased because it is difficult to identify a person just from a portrait of one eye, so the mystery was as much a part of the attraction as the painting itself.  This piece is not marked and the subject and date are unknown, but it does have an antique style pin and clasp.  It is about 7/8 inch long and is in very good condition.
