My Reproduction of the Burgner Sideboard

in Portfolio

I try to make a piece of furniture each year for Wanda.  Last year it was this copy of a Walnut sideboard originally made by the regionally famous Burgner family of makers from Greene County Tennessee back in the early 1800’s.  The original of this piece sold at auction in 2010 for $26,000.  I was able to get photos from the auction catalog and attempted to make a copy using the same type of materials and methods used by the Burgners.  I did make my piece about 12″ less in width at Wanda’s request.   Every other detail is as close to the original as I could make it. It is made from Tennessee black walnut with all solid wood construction ( no veneers), poplar secondary, and has a shellac and wax finish.
